The Seventh Member Congress and Academic Exchange Meeting of the Shandong Cell Biology Society was held in Qingdao from August 30 to August 31, 2018. The meeting was organized by the Shandong Cell Biology Society, co-organized by the China Cell Biology Society, and hosted by Qingdao University. The purpose of the conference was to promote academic exchange among researchers and teachers in the field of cell biology, to display the latest achievements and important advances in the research of cell biology, and to discuss the latest academic problems in the field of cell biology. The conference deepened friendships among sister colleges and scientific research institutions in Shandong Province and thus enlivened academic thinking.
Li Peifeng, President of the Institute of Translational Medicine of Qingdao University, and Professor Zhang Shicui, Vice President of the Shandong Institute of Cell Biology, co-hosted the opening ceremony. President Li Peifeng introduced the guests at the meeting and warmly welcomed everyone at their arrival. Xia Dongwei, President of Qingdao University, extended a warm welcome to experts from inside and outside the province and introduced the history of Qingdao University, including its reform and development in recent years. Xia said the conference was a rare opportunity to strengthen the construction of related disciplines and promote scientific research on biology at Qingdao University. Professor Liu Xiangguo, President of the Shandong Institute of Cell Biology, delivered a speech. On behalf of the Institute, he welcomed the guests, teachers, and students who attended the meeting and gave a brief introduction to the history of the Shandong Institute of Cell Biology. He expressed gratitude for the guidance and hard work of Qingdao University in hosting the conference. Wang Xinsheng, Director of the Medical Department at Qingdao University, also attended the meeting.
The seventeen guest speakers gave wonderful academic presentations at the meeting. We invited the top experts in the field of cell biology in China: Professor Zhizhong Gong from the China Agricultural University, Professor Cishi Chen from the Kunming Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Long Miao from the Institute of Biophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Xinming Jia from Tongji University, Professor Baohua Liu from Shenzhen University, and Professor Wang Yanming from Penn State University in the United States. Special invitees from the province were cell scientists Professor Jun Zhou, Professor Chengjiang Gao, Professor Ian Denis Johnson, Professor Jinpeng Sun, Professor Mingyi Bai, Professor Jianxun Wang, Professor Wencheng Zhang, Professor Jinmin Gao, Professor Yonghua Bao, Professor He Gen, and Professor Chengtian Zhao. Their academic reports were exciting and the participants’ responses were enthusiastic.
Cell biology is a frontier subject with both historical and present-day significance. Its micro-interpretations of the laws of nature have important value and influence in modern life science and the medical field. “Cell World, Life Great World, Shanghai,” cell activities in all corners of life, the pursuit of human health and well-being has always been accompanied by the fate of the cell.
The cell biology conference was widely praised by the participants, and it has played a constructive role in developing the study of cell biology in Shandong Province.
